An Autumn Knit-A-Long

Ankar's Sweater

I love the fall.  The aspens are turning gold, the days are still sunny, and the evenings have a nip in the air. And who doesn’t love pumpkins, hot cider, and the anticipation of the holidays to come.  All of these are inspirations for our Fall Knit-A-Long, the Anker Sweater--My Size designed by PetiteKnit.

There are lots of things to like about this sweater.  It’s knitted top-down and in-the-round so no seaming.  The simple yoke design makes it interesting, but not difficult to knit. It comes in a wide range of sizes (XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL).  And it is pretty.  The design comes from the yarnover increases every 10 rows in the yoke, so the shape gradually develops as the stitches increase.

I am knitting the model with Plymouth Select DK Superwash in a rich pumpkin brown.  It is really a yummy yarn and has a nice stitch definition.  The sections of the yoke are looking great.

Anker's Sweater in progress

The yoke is knitted in segments with one row of yarnover increases, a row of stockinette stitch, and 10 rows of 1 X ! rib stitches.  That makes it easy to keep track of where you are on the pattern.  About the time you complete the yoke, you decrease for the raglan sleeves and put them on waste yarn, stitch holders, or as in my case, a spare cable. Knit the body, pick the sleeves, and finish them on double pointed needles or Magic Loop, weave in the ends, and you are done.  The project has just enough pattern to make the project interesting and fun and yet simple enough to knit while chatting with friends.  What could be better?
