There is excitement building at The Stitchin’ Den as the time for Hot August Knits, the Front Range yarn crawl, approaches, July 31 - August 14. If you have missed the yarn crawl in the past, this is the year for you. You can participate virtually and/or in person. I must admit that it is hard to beat chatting with the staff in the shops and putting your hands on the yarn; although it can still be fun to participate virtually. Now our customers, who have lamented that they can't visit during the crawl, won't miss out.
Since we missed the Wool Market (canceled due to COVID), we can’t wait to see and touch base with our customers. I love the festive feel of the yarn crawl. New yarns, goody bags, and door prizes accumulate, followed by energized customers. It is great fun to check out the exclusively hand-dyed yarns by Ali Pate (left) and featured patterns. It is exciting to put together the pins and tote bags ordered especially for the event. If you visit the shop in person, you will be able to browse through our featured yarn and model displays, catch up on what is new at the shop, and sit and knit on the patio. If you can't visit in person, plan to participate virtually by tuning into live events. These are listed on the Hot August Knits site (http://hotaugustknits.com/ ). On the home page select Visit Shop to see when to tune in. For example, if you click on The Stitchin' Den link, you will see:
Our online events will be held on our Facebook page and will be
- Saturday, July 31stat 2pm - Featuring the Road Trip Shawl & The Campside Shawl
- Thursday, August 5that 1pm - Featuring the Trail Ridge Shawl
- Friday, August 13that 1pm - Featuring There and Back Again Socks.
As in years past, participants will want to have their passports stamped. Whether you visit shops in person or participate virtually, passports are going digital. Visit the passport page to learn exactly how to do this.
During the online event, you will receive a unique Hot August Knits code to use on your digital passport. This code will link you to an online entry form. Completing the form and submitting it acts as a digital stamp. If you don't have a mobile phone, don't worry, the staff at the shop will help you get it done.
This year, there will be five shops participating: Cowgirl Yarns in Laramie, Ewe Count in Cheyenne, Lambspun in Ft. Collins, Longmont Yarn Shoppe in Longmont, and The Stitchin’ Den in Estes Park. You can link to a terrific map and other information on the Hot August Knits site. It is interactive so; you can pull it up on your phone and get directions on the go. Make sure to check out the free patterns that each shop is offering. You can link to one free crochet pattern and one free knit pattern from each shop on the free patterns page.
We are getting ready here at the shop, and it’s time for you to mark your calendar. Call some friends and plan to drive up the hill or tune into the live events. You will have fun and get inspired. We can't wait to see you.
