Double knitting is a way to create two layers of fabric at the same time. It is a technique that can be used in place of knitting in the round or to create multiple layers of fabric with unique color patterns.  Be careful as this type of knitting can be very addictive as the possibilities are endless!

Prerequisite skills:  Knitter must be at intermediate level or above.  

Materials Needed:  

1 skein of worsted weight yarn like Cascade 220 or Lamb's Pride Worsted 

 8" Size 7 double pointed needles

Size US 8 16" Circular Needle

Size US 9 16" Circular Needle

Class Outcomes:  Double knitting creates two layers of fabric one one set of needles, while create stockinette stitches on each side of the fabric.  In the first of the two classes you will learn the basics of double knitting by making a cell phone bag (pattern will be provided during class).  In the second class this basic technique will be expanded so that you learn how to create a pocket as you knit the Little Joey Bag designed by Lucy Neatby.  This technique can be used to knit pockets in a garment.
